An In-Depth Guide To Writing A College Essay

Your essays reveal something about you that even your tests can’t – your personality. Since an essay grants you a lot of freedom to express yourself within a given topic, you should use that chance to tell everybody who you are.

However, writing a great essay isn’t very easy. So, we have put together eight tips that can act as your guide;

  1. Brainstorm
  2. You can never write a good essay without first brainstorming about the topic. Think about the topic widely, evaluating the possible angles from which you can approach your writing. Think about the many ways of opening the essay and the various ways of closing. At the end of the day, you want to be as excited as possible before you can start writing.

  3. Let your first draft flow
  4. The first draft is perhaps the most important part of the essay writing process. This is where you do your research and note down the points you want to cover. Create a simple outline, logically arranging your topics the way you’d love them to appear in the final draft. You don’t have to make the first draft perfect, but at least let it flow with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion.

  5. Be specific
  6. This point cannot be stressed enough. Often, you’ll be given a very wide topic to write on. Remember that you don’t have to write everything about that topic. Instead, identify an interesting area within that topic and write about it. The narrower the topic you finally select, the easier it will be for you to write a tight, comprehensive essay.

  7. Find a creative angle
  8. Sometimes essays can be boring. Maybe you don’t even love the given topic. But you still have to write the essay. So, the solution is to find a creative angle. While you may hate politics, for example, you may love how women have increasingly staked a claim in the political arena. Why not write about that?

  9. Get feedback
  10. Once you finish writing the essay, allow others to comment on it and help you to make it better. Show it to your friends and colleagues and ask them what they think. Then,

  11. Proofread and make corrections
  12. We all make mistakes. Maybe you misspelled a word or missed a letter somewhere. This is the time to go over your work for the last time and make the necessary corrections.

Remember that you can always get help online if you want to become an even better essay writer.
